Joseph Cannizzo

Head Instructor

Brief info

Leveraging his extensive experience in teaching and national and international competitions, Joe brings elite-level coaching and guidance to the team. Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Joe's journey in martial arts began with active participation in competitions. His accolades include winning gold in various local and national Judo tournaments, as well as National Grappling tournaments. However, it wasn't long before Joe discovered his true passion for teaching.

Within the dojo, particularly in kids' judo martial arts classes, Joe remains highly engaged. During his instruction, he consistently emphasizes core Judo principles such as "softness controls hardness," "maximum efficiency with minimum effort," and "mutual benefit." Joe has also ventured into teaching Judo for physical education in public schools and has instructed civil service workers like police officers, corrections officers, firemen, coast guard personnel, and EMT/EMS workers. His commitment to creating a safe space for children to thrive and stay away from trouble started even at the age of 10.

Joe divides his time between training for international competitions and coaching his students.
